First of all let give you a warm welcome to this forum.
Did you checked the online resources from Nikon support? I just found a support document that states that all Coolpix cameras can not take any advantage from high speed SD cards. The only exception is that the card should be fast enought to store data from the internal buffer into the SD memory during the film recording.
The card speed does not infuence the standard photo shoots, because they are always buffered into the camera internal memory first.
So coming back to your question a medium speed card (60 or 80x) should be OK for your purpose and 2GB is supported by all newer Coolpix models, including the L4 and P4.

... Except you are planing to buy a DSLR in future. Otherwise use the saved money and enjoy an espresso in the next cafe´
